What Does the Endura ESG procedure involve?
Before conducting the procedure, the doctor will order bloodwork and EKG and prescribe anti-nausea medication to take before the procedure. Also, for their safety, the night before the procedure, the patient is instructed to avoid eating or drinking after midnight.
During the ESG procedure
- First, the patient is given anesthesia through an IV catheter.
- After the patient is asleep, an initial endoscopic examination is performed.
- A thin, flexible tube equipped with a camera and light is passed through the mouth into the esophagus, stomach, and small intestine.
- Then a special endoscope with a suturing device attached is passed into the stomach.
- A series of full-thickness sutures are placed through the stomach wall in the stomach body with the result being the creation of a sleeve-shaped stomach that is similar to a surgical sleeve gastrectomy.
What is recovery like after Endura ESG?
After the procedure, you may start clear liquids and remain on some form of a liquid diet for two weeks. Then there is progression to small semi-solid meals over the next 2 weeks and eventually to a regular healthy diet. Normally most patients go back to their everyday activities within three to five days after the ESG procedure. Patients will also continue to follow up with our multidisciplinary team of experts. One full year of follow-up visits with the physicians and with the nutritionist/dietician is included in our Reveal Weight Loss program.
Is Endura ESG covered by medical insurance?
The ESG procedure is not currently covered under insurance, so patients are responsible for the cost. ESG was approved by the FDA as a viable weight loss solution, so experts are hopeful that it will be included in insurance plans in the future.
